Since he was little things had never quiet worked out well for the young Felinae. With paws that seemed to big and a little to much curiosity the kit by the name of Kei got into trouble often, frequently finding new ways to cause his clan grief. Thankfully he’d grown since then.
With white and black fur grown out to handle the cold conditions of the mountains he was now one of the many who hunted for and protected the Meru clan as they traveled. They had always been a nomadic kind and though the idea of having a single spot to return to sounded good at times Kei admitted he much enjoyed seeing the world. Well he though he had at least. Now, separated from his clan and stuck within a harsh storm, he was having second thoughts.
The snow had been to fresh and they just hand’t been paying enough attention. Going along one of their less traveled paths the clan had been unaware of the unstable ground, that was until Kei heard the crack beneath his paws and saw the faces of his clan quickly fall away.
Having awoken with a jump Kei got to his paws and looked around to try and figure out where it was he’d landed. Pain rolled through the Felinae’s body so it was obvious it hadn’t been a small fall. He could also tell he’d been there for a little while thanks to the amount of cold that had managed to seep through his thick coat.
Despite how he’d been trained the young one couldn’t help the flash of panic that swept through him like the winds of the storm as it dawned on him that it was unlikely he would be found. The severity of the storm would prove tracking to be near impossible not to mention they hadn’t had the needed materiel to make their way safely down the mountainside from which he’d come. At this point his only saving grace was the fact that they’d been traveling with a small pack upon their back and their bow had survived the fall. Shaking away the collected snow from his fur boy began his trek forward. He knew which way they’d been headed in comparison to the wind so as long as it had not changed direction since he’d last been with his clan he could at least continue in the same direction in hopes of meeting once again later. This was not his day though.
Hours were spent traversing the cold before something odd came into his view. It was a sight new to him but he’d heard tales of the strange portals that had appeared upon their world. With still no sight, sound, or scent of any others he decided it very well might be his only way of true survival. Even though he was far more built for these conditions than many other races were he was still used to being within his clan. Having others there to support him in his times of trouble and strife. This portal, wherever it might lead, was most likely his best hope. With a final look around the snow covered landscape he gripped his belongings tight and threw himself into the portal.
The next time he awoke he noticed he was notability warmer. Granted, it was still winter where he’d ended up, but there was a very obvious lack of falling snow and he could even smell an unfamiliar scent carried upon the wind. With tail swishing gently behind him Kie shook himself out once more and began walking.
Nearing his breaking point the Felinae nearly cried out in joy as dark blue eyes landed upon a settlement. Ears perked and tail held higher from the ground he quickly approached the area and would be looking for the nearest tavern. More than anything right now he just needed a place to rest and something to warm his aching body. Surely he looked as horrid as he felt with what had been wet fur and clothes now muddy from his landing into the area. Hopefully no one would see him as an enemy of any kind or simply want him gone due to his current condition. Overall he was a little unknowing about the settlements as he’d never been part of those who entered and got near them for the sake of trading or gathering some sort of information, going off what it was other clan members had told him.

Flash walked through the forest close to town. He blended in to the forest around him mostly due to the dark coloration of his outfit, as well as the camouflage flack jacket that he wore. His outfit was that of large organic looking body armor with what could almost be described as white veins marking all along it. His face was covered with a black mask that had white highlight marking around it as well as a crimson visor that covered his eyes. the only parts of skin that showed for Flash were his forehead but most of that was covered by his dark mop of hair. A strange series of sounds echoed out in the calm of the day, slowly he drew his rifle and moved quietly. Slowly moving through the brush until it opened up and a portal stood in the clearing. Flash had to hold himself from rushing to it and trying to leap through. Watching he saw a figure fall from the portal. “Shit.” He muttered to himself as he continued to watch closely. Slowly the figure got to its feet. The feline features gave it away as a Felinae. His eyes rolled. “Great… another one.” He thought to himself. Watching the newcomer slowly walk to the town Flash moved through the thick brush keeping him in his sight. As the Felinae walked into the outskirts of town Flash moved from the brush his rifle leveled at the newcomers head. “Easy there.” His voice rang out calling for the Felinae’s attention. “Make a quick move or any thing I count as aggressive and I will open fire.

At the sound of a voice and some odd scent hitting them Kei pinned his ears back, tail lowering and flicking slightly as he raised his hands. What fur wasn’t stuck in place by mud fluffed out a little as a sign of his agitation. “I’m not here to make trouble…” He hated not seeing his adversary so carefully he turned his head to look at the other. Doing so he got a slightly stronger scent so he guessed whatever it was must be coming from the male. He seemed humanoid… Sort of at least. Something seemed wrong with the armor he wore but Kei could be wrong. He’d dealt little with Humanoids and their style. Plus this stranger could have been dumped out of a portal much like himself so there was no telling where it was he came from.
“I have been through much in the last day,” Kei kept his posture more submissive but still held fire within his eyes as he spoke, ” and I simply want a place to warm myself and the possibility to get some food in my belly.” He had gone through much just to make it to this spot. To be shot down before being able to actually make it somewhere safe would be a rather aggravating and unfortunate event.
“I hold no ill intent for yourself or anyone else here.” Offering a slightly pained smile he continued. “Plus I’m not really in any sort of state to get in a fight, let alone take on a settlement.” He had all of three arrows that hadn’t been broken and the exhaustion was rather plain on his features.

Flash made no move. his eyes took in the full of the being standing before him. Every thing about him told Flash that there was no real trouble but Flash had been fooled before. Slowly the rifle lowered as Flash eased his stance. Slowly he gave a nod and slung the rifle over his back in a more relaxed fashion. He walked forward holding his hand out in a more friendly manner. “Well, you look like you have been though just about hell.” He said with a laugh. “My name is Flash, Flash Thompson.” His talking was cut off by a deep growl that seemed to come from his body. Slowly his armor seemed the writhe and move. A humanoid head Filled with razor like Teeth White outlined its eyes seemed to form off a tendril off his armor at about his shoulder height as it looked over the Felinae in front of him. “And we.” the head growled. “Are VENOM!” Its maw snipped and Flash reached out grabbing it and pulling it back. “Okay big guy you need to stop scaring the newbie.” He sighed deeply. “We have to make sure it knows! If it turns out to be like the slave did we will be picking its bones from our teeth.” Flash sighed as the head slowly reformed into the armor he wore. “Sorry about him.” Flash made a sigh and shrugged.

Though the demeanor of the other had changed Kei was still a little hesitant. This man had just been pointing a rifle at his head so you couldn’t really blame him. He still acted politely though and turned to fully face the other, ear raising slightly as he tried to calm his nerves. The Felinae had even began to reach his paw-like hand out when a growl emanated from the other. Immediately he was on high alert again, jumping back and drawing the small dagger that rested upon his hip. He even instinctual answered the things growl with a low growling hiss of his own, ears pinned back and tail held steady as he stood ready.
The young hunter’s heart thudded within his chest as some odd creature emerged from the human’s armor and spoke. He was baffled and rather terrified but the human seemed to be calm, maybe even annoyed at the thing. He listened as they both spoke but said nothing until the thing, apparently a male that goes by the name of Venom, withdrew back into the armor. Well at least he knew what that odd scent was now.
“Uh.. I-it’s okay? I guess?” Kei had no idea what to do or how to react. It was easy to say this was the first time he’d run into such a thing and though the human seemed fine, maybe even friendly, Venom was another thing. He seemed to be rather happy to maybe lash out and had no qualms with talking about apparently eating him.
“H-he.. He won’t really eat me.. Will he? Or will you?” He shook his head the slightest bit, cautiously coming out of his fighting stance and looking worriedly at the other. “I’m not sure how that works…”
Taking a deep breath the Felinae fully stood up again and though he was a little to weary to approach the other again to shake his hand he gave a small nod. “I’m, uh.. My name’s Kei. I would say it’s nice to meet you.. two? But it was kind of a little to jarring to be properly nice.”

Flash let out another deep sigh as his hand dropped to his side. “Nice to meet you Kei.” He said and gave a nod. “Oh he will eat you.” He shrugged. “Honestly it is the nicest thing he can do if he wants to kill a person.” Flash gave a reassuring smile. “But you have nothing to worry about as long as you don’t make me regret being nice.” He said. “We had a slaver group come through town a while back. We helped and saved a slave from the slavers but come to find out that well he was one of them and set a bomb off in my face almost killing me.” He almost growled out the last part remembering the explosive that almost put an end to him on the second day he was ever here. “I have grown a little bit…. untrusting after that and so has my other half.” He said motioning to the armor he wore. “Sorry again about him he is not what I call a people creature.” “Not a creature!” The voice growled from his armor.

Had he been any sort of humanoid Kei was sure he would have paled at the fact that Venom eating him was a very real possibility. The idea that it was apparently the nicest way to kill him too was a very disconcerting thought. Surely he would have to watch himself around these two. It wasn’t that Kei was malicious in any way he just had a knack of accidentally doing the wrong thing and angering those around him.
Hearing the other had been through such a rough thing he couldn’t help but drop his ears and tail slightly. He’d had his own close calls but nothing could live up to something like that. Now falling off of a cliff didn’t sound all that bad…
“That’s… Just wow…” Wrapping his tail around himself he grabbed it and smoothed out his fur slightly, a little nervous habit he’d picked up as he’d grown. “I knew that there was cruelty out here but I had no idea it was truly that bad..” As he spoke he’d been looking at his tail but he now raised his gaze. “I’ve lived high in the mountains all my life and few with such drives come to our area. I was never really one to go on the treks close to settlements either so it’s just… Jarring I suppose.” There was a look of sincerity held within his dark eyes. “I am sorry to hear that you had to go through such a ordeal. I’m glad to see you have lived through it though. You must have a strong spirit and that will drive you both to outlive most of us I’m sure.”
Kei even gave a small smile as he continued. “I don’t blame you for being weary. Either of you. And you don’t need to apologize really. Despite the stressed meeting I’m still alive so that’s better than how some would have reacted I’m sure.”

Flash gave a nod and reached up slolwy lifting the black and white mask. Slowly he revealed his face and gave a a reassuring smile. “Come on kid lets get ya cleaned up and put up in the bunks.” He said waning toward the town. “And don’t worry nothing will happen to ya as long as I am around.” He said patting the weapoms strapped all over his body. “These are not just for show.” He walked into town and gestured around. “Welcome to the Oasis.”

It was nice to fully see the face of the human as it not only gave him a face to tie the name to but it also gave him the impression that Flash trusted him at least slightly. The taller male turning his back on Kei only helped to solidify that idea and it honestly made him happy. He had no idea where he’d really been spit out by the portal so having someone at least sort of on his side was fantastic. Yes, it was less than a whole clan, but it was far better than no one at all. “Thank you, Flash.”
With wide eyes he looked around the settlement. It didn’t seem to be anything to flashy but the flow of others of various races was a sight to see. It was also a fitting name really. A little bit of relative safety to rest and regroup out of the sometimes harsh and trying wilds.
Looking to Flash and Venom he looked the slightest bit worried. “I’m afraid I really don’t have much to give anyone for anything.” Being on the small side for a male he normally didn’t carry much of the clan’s spare resources as there were many better built for it and there was little need for him to have any form of currency on him since he wasn’t one of the clan that traded and bartered with others. “Do you know of any other way I can possibly pay for a bed and a meal? Maybe just upkeep of a certain area or the camp in general?”

A man wearing a brown hat and duster standing outside what looked like a tavern waved at Flash. “Heya Flash, you picking up strays now?”

Dark blue eyes narrowed slightly at the man calling to Flash, ears going back and tail flicking slightly in annoyance. He might be on his own now but he was in no way a stray and calling him so was just rude. “I can hear you ya know.” Kei grumble more to himself than the others.

You hear an explosion come from a building before a man wearing a dress shirt, vest,a hat carrying googles, one lens cracked the other a gem, and a sparkling piece a cloth wrapped around his waist, comes out covered in soot. “So that was a failure… I am going to let that air out… for awhile. Oh hi friend are you new in town. The name is Steam”

A human with flowing white hair approaches from down the street. He takes long, confident strides, his arms tucked into a labcoat sullied by dubious chemical stains and an astonishing amount of old blood. At first he walks past the growing gathering of people, almost as though not seeing them. He regards the tavern with a squint and then calls out to nobody in particular.

“I come here following the unmistakable sound of high-explosive munitions only to find a distinct lack of ongoing violence,” he says, agitation clear in his voice haughty and boisterous. “What, is the meaning of this disturbance, hmm? Did somebody fuck up a chemical formula?”

The man in the brown coat wanders over to Steam and pats some of the soot off of him. “Damn, see this is why I don’t mess with explosives. Sorry friend, didn’t mean to ruffles your fur, Names Dusk. Let me buy you a drink and get you warm in the Tavern to make up for it.”

Kei’s attention was quickly yanked from the trench coat wearing human as the sound of an explosion rang out through the area. He watched with concern as another human excited the building from which the sound had come from and came to approached him. Subconsciously the Felinea scrunched his nose at the strong cent of explosive chemicals and the leftover soot covering him. “Uh, yeah. I just got here. Flash was just showing me the place and I think taking me somewhere I can clean up.” He gestured to his mud covered self. His body was even littered in bruises from his fall down the mountain but those were all hidden by this thick white and black fur.
He then looked back to the other, apparently named Dusk, and gave a nod. “It’s okay.” Kei even smiled a little. “And a drink sounds amazing. Thank you”
